The light on the trombone is great, but you need to light his face the same way. Make sure to bring the soft box from the left side in closer and/or turn it up.
Also use some rim light to separate the background from your models head. I see you have it on the left shoulder in the second photo, but try snooting it on his head, or better yet putting the light right behind him.
The first picture is extremely cool. I like how you featured the sax equally with the subject. You also did a great job with the the overall pic. Good variety. I'm not sure if it was such a good idea to use a black background on the second pic though. Doesn't look like you have enough contrast to make the subject pop. Good job overall.
