“The Fall”

On Saturday, February 13, 2010, Sergio Median of Saginaw, Mich. came to
Midland, Mich. along with his younger brother Geraldo Medina also of Saginaw,
Mich. Both being avid sculptural art fans, they thought attending the “Winter Garden
Glass,” exhibit at Midland’s Dow Gardens would be a great way to see some unique
sculptural art.
“I really like bright sculptures, especially glass,” Sergio said. “It’s (the exhibit)
some thing cool to do,” Sergio said. He added it is best to come to the exhibit when
it’s completely dark because the spotlights bring out the colors.
The piece that the Medina’s took the most interest in was the piece entitled,
“The Fall.” This specific piece features 10 stands of autumn leaves made of shaped
colored glass. The leaves are displayed by hanging from a real tree on the grounds
of Dow Gardens.
The “Winter Garden Glass” exhibit features 25 different glass sculptures all
intended to be displayed in an outdoor garden. The pieces are all by glass artist,
Craig Mitchell Smith.
The 25 glass sculptures are on display at Midland’s Down Gardens on
Friday, February 12 and 13 from 5 to 8 pm. Two weeks after the exhibit the 25
pieces will then be auctioned on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 7 pm, in theMidland
Center for the Arts Garden Room.
